Since opening our new Coffs Harbour practice in late 2008 we have performed over 100 equine surgical procedures (@ July 2010) ranging from arthroscopy to specialist orthopaedic and reproductive surgeries.
Our equine patients range from champion thoroughbreds, to polo ponies, warmblood performance horses, Arabs and pleasure horses.
However, it's not only surgical procedures that we can offer, we can also advise on developing and maintaining a solid health and wellness program for your horse, including providing advice on nutrition and parasite prevention.

We are extremely fortunate to have our own veterinarians Dr David Johnson, Dr Kelly Griffin and Dr Merrilyn Fitzgerald who each have specific interests in areas of equine medicine and surgery. In addition we have a Specialist Equine Surgeon Dr Nicholas Kannegieter who regularly visits our clinic to perform surgery on our equine patients. In turn they are supported by a team of experienced and dedicated equine nurses.
has been the veterinarian for the Australian Team at the Young Riders Trans Tasman event competing in Christchurch, New Zealand in April 2010. In addition he was the international treating veterinarian for the Australian Equestrian Team at Beijing Olympics 2008. Dr Johnson is also heavily involved with the Coffs Harbour Racing Club primarily performing work for the trainers based at the racecourse but also being the veterinarian on race days.
Dr Kelly Griffin
joined our team in 2009 from working as Head Equine Anaesthetist at an equine practice in the Hunter Valley. She holds the qualification of MACVs in anaesthesia and critical care, in addition she holds MACVs in equine medicine. Dr Griffin was also the anaesthetist during a surgery on Merlin, an Australian Fur Seal, a famous local from the Pet Porpoise Pool and our first large marine mammal patient.
Dr Merrilyn Fitzgerald
is not only a highly experienced equine veterinarian, she is also an avid competitor on the showjumping circuit. Dr Fitzgerald’s specific interests are in the reproduction area where she also owns and manages the Equine Breeding Unit at Bonville.
